'Winston's Warriors' pairs, trains, and prepares Veterans to compete in a variety of athletic events alongside their K9 teammates. Competitiveness is engrained in our Veteran community, and many times, service members struggle to maintain their competitive drive upon separation from the military. This program assists Veterans in finding their ideal athletic teammate (rescue dogs in many cases), in addition to providing scholarshiped training programs for existing Veteran-owned companions. Program includes pairing Veterans with a companion, training, and all associated competitive fees (entry fees, etc) for the first full year of competition.
Veterans can choose to compete in any (or multiple) of the following K9 athletic events:
The ultimate team sport. Veteran and dog negotiate a difficult course of obstacles consisting of jumps, tunnels, contact obstacles, and weave poles. Now one of the most popular K9 sports in the world, the championships can be found on ESPN each year.
Veteran works to train dog to jump for distance off an elevated platform into the water.
Veteran works with dog in a barn setting to seach and identify live rats hidden in tubes. The ultimate test of teamwork, handling, and the dog's ability to recognize and identify scents.
